Note: BMI is an indicator of healthy weight and is widely used, however, it has limitations. BMI is only an estimate that cannot take body composition into account. Due to the wide variety of body types as well as the distribution of muscle, bone mass, and fat, BMI should be considered in conjunction with other measurements rather than used as the sole method of determining a person’s healthy weight.

There is no way to tell the difference between fat and muscle using BMI. Therefore, a person with a high BMI due to muscle mass need not worry about the health problems associated with obesity or being overweight.
